Every year, the first of December I/Göteborgs Handels- and Sjöfartstidning, gives a price to a person who have, with great personal risk, in action stood up for the values that we call civilized. The price is called the Holme award and is presented annually, on December 1st, commemorating the anniversary of the day Rosa Parks by her courage took the fight for human dignity. It is given to a citizen of the world, who through actions, risking his or her own career, upholdthe collective values that build and keep friendship, families and countries together. Holme is the hero of Swedish author Jan Fridegård’s trilogy Land of wooden gods, People of the dawn and Sacrificial smoke.
So far everyone has accepted the price, and the Holme Award has previously been rewarded and accepted by Ara Abrahamian (2008), Lydia Cacho (2009), Julian Assange (2010), Shahira Amin (2011), Yang Zaixin and Su Tianjin (2012), Edward Snowden (2013), Hennie van Vuuren (2014) and Khadija Ismayilova (2015).
Raif Badawi has accepted the Holme Award of 2016 with great honor.
Thank you Dennis Toellborg who made this possible.
